SGA begins fund raising effort to support victims of earthquake

As relief streams into the island nation of Haiti following a series of devastating earthquakes on January 12, the Student Government Association is stepping up to offer an opportunity for Jacksonville State University students to help. The SGA began collecting donations from students last week at the basketball game against Tennessee State and will continue collecting donations until February 28.

GEM upgrade begins Feb. 3

Students will experience the complete transition of the JSU e-mail system to a new interface by the late hours of February 3. The system that has been switched already for faculty and staff accounts, is to replace GEM; a platform already categorized as "an aging old system" by the Information Technology department.

JSU Peer Educators target student smoking

On Wednesday January 25, the Jacksonville State University Peer Educators, alongside the Calhoun County Health Department, hosted the Tobacco Awareness Day in the Theron Montgomery Building. The purpose of the event was to raise student awareness and educate them about the harmful effects of tobacco and marijuana use, as well as offering information on how to quit smoking.

WLJS finds big names, more students

Jacksonville State University's radio station, WLJS 92J, is growing. While the growth may not be obvious to new listeners, long time listeners to WLJS have noticed an obvious growth over the past few semesters. The radio station's growth is attributed to the new requirement in the Communication Department, a media workshop.
