Blaqk Audio surfaces with a bang with their debut album "CexCells."

The group is an electronica side project of AFI's Davey Havok and Jade Puget. With the success of A.F.I., this was a bold move for the duo. Reports have said that work actually began in 2001 while AFI was still touring.

The album opens up with the driving rhythm of their first single, "Stiff Kittens." One can hear some resemblance to works by Pet Shop Boys, The Cure and Nine Inch Nails.

The album's strengths are the more upbeat, electronic songs. Highlights also include "Snuff on Digital," "On a Friday" and "Again, Again and Again." The weaknesses of the album include the slow and much mellower songs like "The Love Letter."

If nothing else, this album should inspire feelings of being in a dance club.
