City Sleeps
Not an Angel
If you are looking for something angelic, do not look here. City Sleeps' debut album, Not an Angel, is falling to Earth on Oct. 9.
Though Not an Angel is the band's debut album, they have been around since 2005 as a part of the underground scene. The five-member band has a strong following out of their hometown of "Hotlanta." They were able to get the attention of several record labels and found a home at Trustkill Records (home to Bullet for My Valentine and Eighteen Visions). They were even able to get John Feldman, the producer who helped produce albums for other bands such as Good Charlotte and Atreyu, for the debut album.
Their presence has become even harder to ignore, due to their touring with Saliva and Three Doors Down. Another boost came when the band's song "Catch Me" was put on the Resident Evil: Extinction OST.
The album is decent. Although, it is very short, clocking in at just over 36 minutes. Most would aim for quality over quantity, but they fail to fully realize this ideal. I give them credit because this is their debut album and because I hope to see better things to come from them.
Ely Dye has a fairly good singing voice (and rarely screams) .which is very refreshing for this style music. At times the band sounds a whole lot like the Alt-Christian band Falling Up. The band seems to be a great ensemble with much potential.
